“Philanthropy is a choice, but it makes you feel alive.” I wholeheartedly agree with this statement from Kim Hudson. I found it inspiring that she was able to discuss how impactful the foundation has been in not only her life, but also her family’s. In addition to this, she mentions the importance behind knowing when it’s the right time to do something. She was told her idea for the foundation wasn’t the best in the beginning and regardless she took her idea and ran with it. I think that’s something that resonates with a lot of people who have such a strong passion for helping others. One important thing she mentions is that having a passion is one thing, but you should be utilizing that passion for the right reasons. She also notes that having a passion in the first place is important and there are opportunities everywhere for college students to get plugged in. Starting a nonprofit is clearly hard work, but behind all the business is a personal connection that makes it all worthwhile which Kim mentions through several experiences of her own. The Hudson Family Foundation serves as a perfect example for us to become more inspired to be philanthropic and work towards creating our own legacy one day as they have begun to do.
